From Driver Intros To Facebook – Drivers & Fans Say Thank You
Farmington, Minn (August 13, 2010) Almost a week has past since last weekends USA Nationals presented by U. S. Steel but the images remain vivid as are the stories. The overriding theme… driver and fan appreciation for one another that leaves everyone looking forward to the 2011 edition of the August classic.
One of the images that many are commenting on is the Jonathan Davenport entrance to the speedway during driver introductions. Davenport, whose team sells a #49 “Hang Ten” foam hand, appeared from the smoke in turn two sporting one of the foam hands waving out his driver window as he circled the 3/8’s mile speedplant under the spotlights and thundering music (Jerry Zimmer image above). For most fans in attendance, it was the best driver intro of the evening and had all kids in the grandstand waving back at Davenport.
Following the weekend, emails are being exchanged from drivers and fans thanking each other for an incredible weekend and drivers saying they cannot wait to come back again in 2011. A few drivers even hinting that they may even come up for the UMP SummerNationals weekend next year. Several fans have joined drivers Facebook, Twitter, websites and fan clubs to keep in contact with drivers and their upcoming schedule and results.
For driver Matt Lux, he made many new fans during the course of the weekend and received a photo from a group of fans stating, “Thanks for coming… See you next year, Your Wisconsin Fans!” (Mike Roth image above). Lux has posted the photo to his Facebook account. Ronny Lee Hollingsworth is another driver who has added a significant number of new fans from the Upper Midwest to his Facebook account and numerous photos from his trip to Cedar Lake. Josh McGuire posted a message on his website thanking USA Nationals sponsor U. S. Steel, the FANS Fund, and the fans for such great support the entire weekend. All in all, a phenominal weekend for drivers and fans.
