Ten FANS Fund Drivers Receive Additional $225
Farmington, Minn (August 9, 2010) During the FANS Fund luncheon on Saturday, August 7, FANS Fund founder Rich Olson addressed those in attendance on what to do with the $2,255 that remained in the fund. With Robbie Blair and Chris Ferguson not in attendance at Cedar Lake Speedway to claim their $1,000 and additional donations over the goal of $10,000, the unclaimed funds were discussed during the luncheon.
Olson brought forth several options that fans had previously shared with him prior to the luncheon. During the discussion, fans also shared several other options for consideration. In the end, five options were considered and voted upon:
1.) Carry to funds over to 2011
2.) Split between the 2010 FANS Fund drivers – over $320 to each driver
3.) Split between the 2009 & 2010 FANS Fund drivers – $225 to each driver
4.) Add additional payout to drivers in the Last Chance Qualifier who did not make the show
5.) Provide the highest finsher of the FANS Fund a large payout
While each option received votes, the overwhelming choice was to split the funds to the ten (10) FANS Fund drivers from the past two years who were in attendance. 2009 FANS Fund drivers in attendance this year were Jason Feger, Dennis Erb Jr. and Brian Shirley. Prior to the evenings main event, all drivers were located and provided with their additional monies and they couldn’t believe the fans had agreed to provide them with the additional funds. To say that Feger, Erb, and Shirley were shocked would not do justice to their reaction when presented with the envelope of cash. All drivers made sure to mention they appreciated the additional money and cannot thank the fans enough for an incredible weekend.
Also, fan Jamie Goff provided a sizeable donation to be paid to the highest finishing FANS Fund driver over the course of the weekend with Robert Valley also contributing to the fund. This donation was announced during the luncheon and the winner was Jonathan Davenport with his fourth place finish in Saturday’s main event. Those funds were provided to car owner Barry Wright and he said the donation would cover their entry fees for the weekend events and was much appreciated.
The fans that make up the FANS Fund sure made a lot of happy drivers and teams over the weekend as well as all the fans in attendance at Cedar Lake Speedway this weekend. The drivers who race outside of the Midwest just cannot believe how well the fans treat them and make them feel welcome. From dropping off food, buying merchandise, and just stopping by to shake their hands and thanking them for coming it certainly makes a difference for the drivers and teams and makes them want to come back again and again. Our attitude and appreciation for drivers and teams is what makes the USA Nationals such a fantastic event beyond the racing.
THANK YOU FANS FOR A TERRIFIC WEEKEND!
